Richard was a fun guy. He liked surfing, sailing, skateboarding, wakeboarding, and scuba diving, to name a few activities. He loved the outdoors and especially water-related sports.
One day Richard was sailing, and the boom went bang. He hit his head and got washed overboard. By the time his body was recovered, it was too late.
Richard had previously told his mother that he had a will, but no one could find it.
Richard presented himself as a trusting husband with a simple estate. In the end, without having a will, everything was amicable between Richard’s family and his wife became the sole beneficiary of the estate.
Many years later, Richard’s wife found the original will whilst cleaning up one of his superyachts. It turned out Richard had been fooling around behind the scene and had many mistresses, along with billions in the bank. Richard had listed over ten mistresses with gifts and as beneficiaries on his signed and dated will.
Richard’s wife threw the will in the bin, laughed, and took a sip from her espresso martini.
Richards story is a reminder that we should leave our wills with someone else to hold. Wills are often left with Lawyers, accountants, executors or friends and family. Most wills that are kept by the deceased are never found.
